Photo Walks
Night & Astro Photography
Saturday, December 4, 2021
(alternate Sunday December 5, 2021)
Location: Janet Bartsch’s Ranch near Chappell Hill, TX
(Sunset scheduled for 5:24, Arrival and set-up by 5:00pm)
Leader: Tom Flink
Mentors: Richard Chesney, Chris Morisette, and others
Cost: FREE
Registration is required: https://form.jotform.com/213005289556154
Join us for a fantastic photo walk and opportunity to shoot the stars in a location outside of the Houston lights. This photo walk will be led by Tom Flink and an experienced group of fellow members to act as mentors and be available for guidance and questions. We will explore techniques for stars, long exposure, star trails, light painting, and others. If we are lucky, we may even be able to get in a few sunset shots and blue hour. We encourage beginner and advanced members to join us.
Our location is being graciously provided by member Janet Bartsch. Her property is located just outside of Chappell Hill, Texas which is about a 1-hour drive from The Woodlands. December 4th is also a New Moon, so we will have the best opportunity at stars (obviously not the moon). If for some reason the weather does not cooperate with us on December 4th, we will try again on the 5th. If both days are overcast or rainy, we will try again in January.
To prepare, we will hold a Zoom Workshop on November 29th to cover equipment, techniques and explore how to make the most of this photo walk. We want everyone to be ready to shoot while on location, so the Zoom Workshop is required for everyone attending.
Recommended equipment: Camera with remote shutter release or delay timer, wide-angle lens, tripod.
Note: Every attendee will be required to sign a liability waiver to visit the ranch in Chappell Hill.
Finally, registration for this photo walk is required (and may be limited) so that we can manage the number of people expected in Chappell Hill and ensure a safe and wonderful experience for everyone.
