Weather doesn’t seem to hold many back! Our January Field Trip had 14 attendees to photograph the Painted Churches! The photos on FB are fabulous! Make sure you send your photos in for our Share and Learn on February 15 for all to see.

Interested in traveling locally? Our February speaker will be just the person you want to hear! On February 15, our guest speaker will be Russell Graves (russellgraves.com) speaking on ‘For the Love of Texas’. Russel has a long history and love for Texas. Not only was he born and raised in Texas, but he has also been traveling, photographing, including making documentaries for television, and enjoying Texas sights and Texans since 1999. Russell is an author of 6 books and an educational guide for photo tours.

More photography fun coming soon with a Field Trip to The Post on February 12, a Photo Deconstruction on February 24 and a Photo Walk in February 26 focusing on shooting backlit subjects and on-camera flash. Look for details and reminders on Facebook and in email.

CLUB CHALLENGES

You need some inspiration? New ideas of what to explore in your photography?  The monthly Facebook Challenges offers a new opportunity to practice, get inspired, and inspire others by sharing your work.


All members can participate in posting up to 3 photos on TWPC Facebook page, according to the monthly subject, with the correspondent #tag. Every Challenge starts on the first day of the month and ends on the last day.  The Showcase Presentation will be created with a minimum of 4 participants and will be published on Facebook the first week of the following month.

I hope everyone is enjoying the new year now.

The WPC February 2022 field trip will be to The Post in downtown Houston, TX on Saturday, February 12, 2022 with lunch at The Post.

The cost of this trip is free but there are parking fees downtown + your own lunch. For those who would like to carpool or caravan to downtown Houston, we will meet at the Woodlands Methodist Church parking lot across from The Loft for a 10:30 a.m. departure. If you plan to drive downtown on your own, please let me know so that we won't be waiting in the church parking lot for you.

Photo Walks


PHOTO WALK- Outdoor Fill Flash

Fill flash is a photographic technique used to brighten deep shadows, usually outdoors on sunny days; but also, anywhere the background is brighter than the subject. Join this photo walk and practice using fill flash. You can use a speedlight or the pop up flash on your camera for this practice session.

Date/Time: February 26 /10am to 12pm

Location: Glade Cultural Center, 2000 Woodlands Pkwy, The Woodlands, TX

Meet at: Front of Glade Center

Preparation: Read your flash and camera manuals to learn how to set the flash mode (TTL and Manual}; Exposure Compensation (camera and flash); Sync speed of your camera and the button on your flash that sets High Speed Sync; and, how to set the zoom on your speedlight if using it, or the red eye/slow sync settings if using the pop up flash on your camera.

What to bring: Formatted SD card- will be used for recording exercises.

Extra batteries for camera and flash.

Tripod- if desired to use live view.

VOTING will be the same as our last virtual meeting. About 24 hours before the meeting (Sunday evening), we will send out a MailChimp meeting reminder. This reminder will contain two Mini-Contest links: one that will lead you to the online gallery where you can view the entries and decide your favorite; and another link that will lead you to an online ballot where you can vote for your favorite. Balloting will remain open until 6:45 pm Monday. The winner will be announced during the virtual meeting.

Submission of entries for our FEBRUARY  VIRTUAL MEETING will be EXACTLY THE SAME as for our live meetings: Remember to remove your "watermarks" from all submitted photos. You upload high-resolution jpeg images (up to 2 per member) with the word “Mini” in the file name, by clicking on this link and following instructions:
