Ellen Taylor

Thank you to Mac Rodgers for creating this slideshow of the July Mini-Contest.  Congratulations to Grace Wu for her winning image.

Oh yes! It is hot outside and a perfect time to stay indoors and take ‘food photos’ that Chris Summers spoke about during our July meeting!

We had a great Photowalk with about 17 members on Friday, July 23rd for dinner at Common Bond followed by wandering about to capture some interesting photos. Thank you Zoraya for planning a wonderful evening. See Facebook for lots of interesting captures. Also, watch for more information coming soon for our August Photowalk!

Alex bunch will be our Guest Speaker on August 9. Alex is a local artist who works in many mediums. He recently decided to get into photography and will share with us the magic he finds in his surroundings!

It’s never too soon to take photos for our Annual Contest! Check our website for contest rules and categories! Contests help us to learn, challenge us, and to hear professional judge’s critique. They are meant to be fun, get us out of our comfort zone, inspire and motivate us to do more and do better.

“See” ya’ll on our August 9th Zoom meeting!

Joan, Tom and your Leadership Team

August 9, 2021

7 pm Central Time

via Zoom

The Zoom session will begin at 6:45 pm and the meeting will kick-off at 7:00 pm.

Guest Speaker

Alex Bunch has been an artist for as long as he can remember. His early work consisted of mud sculptures and mind-blowing (at least to his Mother, anyways) finger paintings. He studied Art Direction and Graphic Design in college, and has lived and worked all over the world as a Creative Director working in film, photography, and just about any medium he can get his hands on, for some of the most prolific brands.

Alex and his family moved to the Woodlands 6 years ago, and it is here that his personal love of photography has blossomed, attempting to capture the beauty that surrounds us. “When a beautiful moment in nature is captured, it is beautiful reminder that no matter what is going on in the world, in our head or in our heart, beauty, joy, and love never, ever leave us."

AIA Sandcastle Competition

Galveston, TX

Saturday, August 21 & 22, 2021

Fee: $15 cash parking fee

Untitled photo

The WPC August 2021 field trip is to the AIA Sandcastle Competition in Galveston, TX on Saturday & Sunday, August 21 & 22, 2021.

Due to the increased number of Covid cases in our area, I've decided to make this a 2 day event. For those of us who are ok being in a possibly crowded outdoor setting - on Saturday the building of the sandcastles lasts all day beginning between 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. but the judging takes place from 3;00 - 4:30 p.m. with Public Favorite Voting from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. The awards will be made at 4:30 p.m.

For those of us who prefer to avoid the possible crowd, the AIA website says that unless there is inclement weather overnight the creations will still be visible on Sunday. You can go any time during either of these 2 days that meets your schedule.

Since this is now a 2 day event, post 1 picture on our Facebook page to show you participated. Here is the website about AIA Sandcastle Competition for more information: AIA Sandcastle Competition .

There is no cost for viewing the sandcastles, but there is a $15 (cash) charge for parking. The parking fee of $15 must be in cash. There is no ATM on site.

If you would like to join us, please email me at and I will create a sign-up sheet since our general meetings are still not in-person. I will also create the Facebook page event about the first of August.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at

Hope to see you on this trip!

“In-House” Learn/Explore Our Camera Settings

Saturday, August 14, 2021

Location: TBD.

The location will be announced on Facebook, so please stay tuned.

Don’t know what a certain setting does on your camera? Have you always wanted to try, but either didn’t know where to start or just taken the time to explore what it can do? Let’s gather for an informal “In-House” workshop to explore our camera settings and practice together. We will meet at Alden Bridge Park at the covered pavilion and explore our cameras. Bring your manuals and list of questions and we will figure it out together, then go practice throughout the park.

Photo Walks

Our next Photo Walk is scheduled for September!
